President Kersti Kaljulaid's greeting to celebrate the beginning of the new school year aired on ETV on September 1. The president stressed communication, societal responsibility and a pleasant school environment.

"Primarily, we have to learn to be human today. The more we can live our everyday life without communicating, whether is the shops, in airports or even at work, the more we have to pay attention to developing children's' social skills at school," she said on her social media account ahead of the full address.

"I also dream of a school where regardless of the large percentage of digital learning, children are taught the process of the society: Supporting each other, noticing, helping. And also the understanding that different opinions are a natural part of life, there are a lot of pleasant ways to solve them and only one unpleasant - fighting and bullying. I wish a great and safe school year for all students, teachers and parents!"
