Gallery: Estonian Santa Claus and Russian Grandfather Frost meet at border in Narva
In keeping with a 20-year-old tradition, Estonia's Santa Claus ("jõuluvana") and Russia's Ded Moroz ("näärivana"), otherwise known as Old Man or Grandfather Frost, met on the bridge connecting Narva and the Russian city of Ivangorod on Friday.
The annual holiday meetup "Santa Claus and Ded Moroz, or Christmas Without Borders" is arranged by the Estonian Tax and Customs Board (MTA) and the North Western Customs Directorate (SZTU) of Russia's Federal Customs Service in cooperation with the Association of Estonian International Road Carriers (ERAA).
The objective of the event is to help support cooperation between agencies and municipal authorities in facilitating and expediting border crossings.
Santa Claus and Ded Moroz have been meeting at the Estonian-Russian border since 1997; previously the two holiday figures met at the Finnish-Russian border.
