Tugi finishes second and Võro sets new personal best in Jyväskylä

08.06.23 NEWS ... Estonia's Gedly Tugi finished second in the javelin at the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze level Motonet GP event in Jyväskylä, Finland. Meanwhile, sprinter Õilme Võro set a new personal best in the women's 100 meters.

Estonian decathlete Karel Tilga finishes fourth in Austria

29.05.23 NEWS ... Estonian decathlete Karel Tilga finished fourth in the 2023 Hypomeeting in Götzis, Austria this weekend. Tilga, who finished with 8,403 points overall, set personal bests in the 100 and 400 meters as well as the 110 meter hurdles during the competition.

Seb Coe does mile in Riga to promote World Road Running Championships

As part of the publicity drive for the hosting of the 2023 World Road Running Championships, British former Olympic champion Sebastian Coe was in Riga this Thursday, where, despite the challenging weather conditions, he ran a mile from the Latvian National Art Museum to the Freedom Monument, reports Latvian public broadcaster LSM.

Õilme Võrõ matches Estonian record at European championships in Istanbul

04.03.23 NEWS ... Sprinter Õilme Võro matched Ksenija Balta's Estonian national record in the semi-finals of the women's 60 meters at the European Indoor Championships in Istanbul. With a time of 7.29 seconds, Võro finished third in her race, but 12th overall in the semis, meaning she missed out on a place in the final.

University of Tartu removes banned athletics coach from teaching role

28.02.23 NEWS ... The University of Tartu has removed athletics coach Mehis Viru from his post as a lecturer. In mid-February, Viru was banned from athletics coaching by the Estonian Athletic Association (EJKL) for an indefinite period due to violating professional codes of conduct.

Estonian Athletic Association receives new allegations about banned coach

27.02.23 NEWS ... The Estonian Athletic Association (EJKL) says it has received new allegations regarding the behavior of coach Mehis Viru. Earlier this month, Viru, who has coached many of Estonia's top young sporting stars, was handed a ban from athletics coaching for an indefinite period for violating professional codes of conduct.

High jumper Karmen Bruus pulls out of Estonian Winter Championships

17.02.23 NEWS ... Top Estonian high jumper Karmen Bruus has announced, that she will not take part in this weekend's Estonian Winter Championships. Bruus, whose coach Mehis Viru received an indefinite ban from athletics this week, said she does not have the strength or motivation to compete in Tallinn this weekend.
